THE Banksy exhibit at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art officially opens today.

The art gallery announced the summer exhibit last week in the city running from June 15 to August 28.

But online tickets for the Cut and Run show are all sold out.

At the weekends, the exhibit is open 24 hours a day but the majority of slots have seen tickets wiped out.

But staff at the GOMA announced punters can try and buy tickets on the door this morning from 9am.

Queues of people were seen outside the gallery this morning as people waited to see if they could get tickets.

Staff were seen to be getting in the Banksy spirit with one security guard donning a traffic cone earring.

Tickets for the show are £15 for adults, £5 for children and £10 for students, OAPs, disabled and low wages.

The exhibit spans 25 years and will feature many of the stencils he has used to create his work.

Banksy said: “I’ve kept these stencils hidden away for years, mindfully they could be used as evidence in a charge of criminal damage.

“But that moment seems to have passed, so now I’m exhibiting them in a gallery as works of art. I’m not sure which is the greater crime.”

The artist said the traffic cone which famously sat on the head of the Duke of Wellington statue outside the gallery was what drew him to exhibit there.

A gallery label for the show said: “For anyone who isn’t aware – the statue out the front has had a cone on its head continuously for the past 40 odd years. Despite the best efforts of the council and police, every time one is removed another takes its place.

“This might sound absurd and pretentious (just wait until you see the rest of the exhibition) but it’s my favorite work of art in the UK and the reason I’ve brought the show here.”

And photography of the show is not allowed and guests will be forced to put their phones in lockable pouches.
